Maia's
Mission

IMG_0993.HEIC

Our Why

In February 2022, our then six-year-old cousin, Maia, was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer that appeared as a tumor on her rib. Throughout her journey, she has faced surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation with unwavering courage and a radiant spirit. After months of treatment, Maia was declared cancer-free, only for us to receive the heartbreaking news of her relapse. Yet, through it all, she has remained a source of strength and inspiration.

Determined to support Maia and all those battling sarcoma, our family continues to raise awareness and advocate for a cure. In October, several family members traveled to Lourdes, where Maia bathed in the holy waters of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes—a place known for its miracles. Since then, she has undergone two PET scans while off treatment, and the miracle we prayed for has arrived: without medical intervention, her scans now show no evidence of disease. We are beyond grateful for this incredible blessing and remain more committed than ever to the fight against sarcoma.

Together, we can make a difference—one step closer to a cure.

Get to Know the Founders

Hello! We, Gabriella and Nicholas Conjelko, are the proud founders of Strides for Sarcoma. We are twins and best friends! We are both in our junior year of undergrad. Gabby is studying Neurobiology and Physiology at Purdue University, and Nick is studying Molecular Biology at Indiana University.  Upon graduation from undergrad, we hope to attend medical school where we can gain the knowledge and skills to further help those affected by cancer and other ailments. Thank you for helping support our dream of finding a cure for sarcoma!

Strides for Sarcoma Incorporation, a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization.
